摘 要: Sea levels in the Bay of Fundy/Gulf of Maine show several forms of non-stationarity,including increasing mean, and cyclic variation on both yearly and longer term scales. We will begin with some summary displays illustrating these patterns, followed by a survey of some frequency domain estimation methods. Equations of continuity and motion for a one dimension model are set down, and with frictional damping, lead to a parametric spectral model. The model is fit to some short term data series, and captures much of the structure apparent in a nonparametric spectral estimate. Some higher order summary statistics support the idea of a frictionally damped, tidally forced oscillation, with nonlinear dynamics.
